Blue Cross Beauty: Summer Brights Nail Polish.

Hi everybody!! How is your weekend going. I am most definitely soaking up the sun on my end. Its in the 70's here at least until Tuesday before it rains.

Today I have for you a nail polish that is super appropriate for the upcoming warm weather!

On a recent trip to Rite Aid ( my holy grail for everything drugstore) I saw that Blue Cross Beauty, a brand I've only seen at Rite Aid came out with some bright fun colored polishes for the Spring.

Out of the five or six colors I saw I picked up the brightest blue that they had. I've been really into wearing bright colors the last few weeks, I think its just with the way I've been feeling at the moment plus I'm excited for warm weather.

Lets get down to it shall we? This polish a neon mid tone blue that has a slightly darker blue shimmer running through it, plus it has very tiny bits of silver glitter mixed in. They look great in the bottle but I don't think they transfer to the nail well, unless I just applied it too quickly, not giving enough time in between coats. In my case that's probably what happened, I'm so impatient.

I like this polish more with a top coat then matte. Hence there are no photos of it matte. The formula is a bit on the sheer side and it takes at least 3-4 to make it opaque enough for my liking so I don't see any visible nail line. The one bright side of the formula is its not to thick or watery so you don't have to worry about flooding or it getting gloopy.

Another highlight of this polish is the bottle. I absolutely love the chunky square bottle! It makes for the perfect hand position. All the Summer Bright polishes are a full 15ml so you are definitely getting your bang for your buck. If I recall these polishes are about $3.99. They had some other nice colors, like a mint green and a pastel pink and I think even a lighter blue, but this one called out to me.

Spring, Butterflies, Gradients? Oh my!

Hi guys!! How are you all? On my end things are up and down as they have been the last few weeks. I've been feeling down and depressed and nothing really seems to be helping. Although there is one thing that has been helping, that  is my friends not just here at home but on the Internet too! If it hadn't been for their words of encouragement I don't know what I would do. I just have to remember I'm not alone in my struggles and eventually everything will work out.

So for today's post I wanted to share with you some nail art I did last week. Since the weather is finally getting warmer (its gonna be 60 today) I was inspired to do a bright manicure.

I started off with two of my favorite neon's from China Glaze, Pink Plumeria and Loves A Beach. The pair of polishes created a subtle gradient that I really liked. Then I decided to add some nail art. Originally I was going to do butterfly wings on all of my nails but since I like the gradient so much that I only did the accent nail.

I have to say I need to practice my butterfly wings more, my nails also need to grow out more too. Its hard to do a butterfly wing on short nails.

After finishing the nail art I waited a day and added Finger Paints Flakies in Flashy.  The iridescence of the flakies really made it look like a butterfly wing. I topped it all off with Julie G Jet Set Fast Drying Top Coat. It has quickly replaced my Seche Vite and Sally Hansen Insta Dry as my favorite top coat!

Nicole By OPI: Carnival Cotton Candy. The Carrie Underwood Collection.

Hello lovelies! Its the middle of the week, I cannot wait to get today over, as you are reading this I will be at work, fun fun.

Today I bring you a swatch of one of the Nicole By OPI Carrie Underwood Polishes. I have only seen this collection at my local Walmart and they only have five of the colors which makes me sad.

Today I bring you Carnival Cotton Candy! I adore this polish so much! It is just the perfect girly pink creme. I wore this on my first day back at school this past spring semester but did a crappy job of applying so I never took photos.

New Spring 2014 Hard Candy Cosmetics!! (Photo Heavy!)

Hi guys!! Happy Friday!! I hope you all have been well!! I've been doing okay, little bit stressed out with some stuff at home but I'm slowly starting to feel better. I am also counting down the next 8 weeks until school is officially done with. I'm not graduating but after this semester I only have three classes left to take and I figure I can take them one at a time so they are less stressful.

Any way I'm sure that you did not come to the blog today to hear me rant about school or work, you came for whats in the title!

That's right Hard Candy put out a ton of new products for Spring 2014 and after seeing a master post on Nouveau Cheap  (Clicky click the link so you can see too!! ) I made a mental note of some of the products I most definitely wanted to try!

I have been a huge fan of Hard Candy when they hit Wal-Mart stores what seems like forever ago! The first thing I ever bought from them and sadly don't have anymore is a five shade eye shadow palette that came with a shadow primer. I thought I was so cool to finally have a shadow primer, and one that work well too!

Well with that said, Hard Candy has done a major upgrade to their eye shadow primer and has released it to be sold on its own not just with eye shadow sets.

Their new eye shadow primer is called Eyes The Limit and it claims to be a long wear eye shadow primer. The tube itself reminds me of the Too Faced Eye Shadow Insurance packaging but I think the Too Faced one is shorter and a little wider. I don't own the Too Faced Primer but I have seen it many times.

The tube contains just under half a fluid ounce of product, and a little goes a long way with this so I don't think I'll be running out anytime soon. The primer is skin toned colored, unlike the original primer that Hard Candy had where it was just a whitish-translucent silicone primer. This one feels silicone-y too but it sinks in to the skin nice and doesn't leave a slippery surface where your eye shadow would fall off.

Yesterday I did put the primer to a first impression  under some shadows from my new Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette. ( I just got it in my Sephora order!) I did a simple look for school yesterday morning since I don't normally have a ton of time to invest in to a detailed makeup look. Any how being at school for three hours by the time  I got home I noticed the shadow was still in place and the color was still visible even though I know I had been touching my face throughout the morning. You know how it is trying to stay awake! Before I ran out to do errands later that afternoon I touched up my makeup a bit more, adding a little bit more shadow and then proceeded to wear the look for about 8 hours, so around 915PM I went to take it off and there was no creasing, or fading, everything was still intact!! That makes me so happy! It outlasted my LORAC Behind the Scenes Primer!

For $5.00 I would totally recommend this eye shadow primer, its totally worth it!!

Next I was impressed when I saw that Hard Candy was introducing new Ombre Lipsticks. Just from the blog post I saw them in I knew I wanted to try them.

I picked up two # 759 Confidence which is a red and hot pink ombre and # 837 Faithful which is a hot pink and light rosy pink ombre. These lipsticks will run you $6.00 a piece if you want to try them and there are 10 shades to choose from!!

As you can see these don't look like traditional lipsticks, they are indeed square, with the darker shade being only about a quarter of the lipstick. I'm still unsure how to apply these to my lips, I tried the other night and I had the darker color on the outer portion of my lips, and to me it just didn't look right. I may have to try it with the larger color part as the outermost part and the darker color on the inside of the lips.

The only downside I see with these is the shape of the lipstick, the square shape does kind of make applying it tricky. I found it hard staying on the  inside the lines of my lips and that these have a lot of shimmer and or glitter particles in it. Once I took it off I could see the glitter all over my face, even when I applied it some pieces fell out. . Otherwise the texture of the lipsticks are super creamy which is always nice, the colors are vivid and even if I  can't get the ombre effect and they just blend to one color I'm sure they will look really cool!

Lastly I got two cheek products. They are aptly named Cheeks and Balances, they are a cream blush and highlighter duo. There are three shades to choose from, with two I got being the only blush shades and the third is a contour/highlighter duo. The are $7.00 a piece.

I picked up # 767 Cheeky Pink and # 805 Sweet Cheeks. Both are rosy mauve pinks with a highlighter on top. I initially thought that the highlighter was the same on each, that was until I swatched it.

Now the blushes are very similar but Sweet Cheeks is tad bit darker and more rosy then Cheeky Pink, and as for the highlighters, Cheeky Pink's highlighter has a golden tone to it where Sweet Cheeks has a pink pearl tone to it.

You can definitely see the difference in the photos above. I haven't tested these out on my face but when I did blend it out on my hand the color wasn't super prominent but the highlighter took over and made it look like a nice overall highlight. I'm not sure if I just didn't put enough on to really get it going. I will have to update this post the second I put them on my face!!

Happy New Year!! Maybelline Color Show: Pretty In Peach.

Happy 2014 you guys!!

I hope your new years eve rocked. I spent mine at home watching Netflix, eating good food, and definitely reflecting on the year. But its a new year now and time for new beginnings!

So today's polish is by Maybelline, they release some new Color Show Polishes back in December and they just hit my Rite Aid just before New Years. I picked out one color from the display that caught my eye. It was one of the brighter colors.

Its called Pretty In Peach, and the color is exactly as the title says. I love me a peach colored polish. I think though that this is only maybe my third in my collection ha ha.

I have quite a few of the Color Show polishes, mostly of the limited edition ones but none the less I overall really quite like them. The quality is good and the collections that Maybelline puts out always gets me to get at least one, otherwise if I got all of them every time I would be broke!

This polish looks florescent in the light but is not a neon, its just a beautifully bright color. You can achieve opacity in two coats with this polish. The first coat isn't nearly as streaky as some creme polishes are. The formula is not thick but thick enough that if you had a pretty steady hand and could balance the right amount of polish on the brush you could maybe get a thin one coater!

I took so many photos of this polish, that it was hard to narrow it down to just four, usually I only get two-three good shots.

I feel like that these Color Show Polish bottles are a little bit heavier than the limited edition ones. It might just be me but who knows. I am definitely looking forward to seeing other colors in 2014 from Maybelline.

So if there is one polish to pick up from the new Color Show's to help brighten up your new year and winter, this is a winner!

Day 7 of 45 Untireds, Essie: First Timer.

Holy cow can you believe that it has been a full week of untrieds? I can't! I have to say I'm going to give myself a small pat on the back for following through with this so far!

Today's untried is a polish that I can't believe I waited this long to feature, Essie's First Timer was released I believe this spring, and man is it a beautiful color.

First Timer is a lovely bright green creme, the formula is absolutely fantastic! I have never had an Essie polish that didn't disappoint.

Its almost as bright as a neon but doesn't dry matte, it actually has a nice shine to it. I don't normally gravitate towards green polishes, if I ever choose to wear them its at the holiday time, you know those evergreen polishes.

Two coats makes it perfect and adding top coat smoothes out any bumps if you happen to get any.

Essie Nail Polish is available at most major retailers. I purchased mine from Walgreens for $8 dollars. The beauty manager was really nice and found me a two dollar off coupon that brought the price to $6!
Essie usually runs about $8 at most retailers. Of course it could always be less or more depending on where you live and where you shop.

45 Days of Untireds Day 5 L'Oreal Paris Royally Yours.

Good Monday morning! Is anyone not a fan of Mondays? I don't have an opinion because sometimes I work and sometimes I don't. But as a blogger everyday can be a work day ha ha.

Today for Day 5 of the Untried Challenge, I have a pretty pastel to show you. L'Oreal Paris released a spring romance collection earlier this year. I don't remember the exact name as I write this but when I do I will insert it here somewhere.

Today's polish is called Royally Yours, it is a pretty pastel blue color that almost reminds me of Hard Candy's Sky. If you want to see a comparison post then let me know below!

So I had seen this polish in its original display for a while, and they were all priced $5.99 which I believe is standard for a Rite Aid display, but I never had the urge to buy any at that price. I had other pastels that I could definitely find for much less.

When I stopped in Rite Aid last week I saw they had a ton of polishes on clearance, as they do when new displays and new stock comes in, at only $2.99 on clearance I couldn't resist picking up a couple of colors.

 I have to say the formula on this was a bit iffy for me. Even though it wasn't terribly humid out or anything like that, I found it to be really thick and even if you didn't wipe off the brush too much you still didn't have enough polish to do at least one coat across the nail. Then it would get streaky and you would have brush drag if you tried to even it out too many times.

The photos in today's post are three coats with top coat to even everything out.

Even after three coats and top coat you can still see a little unevenness on the end of my pinkie finger.

I'm glad I didn't pay full price for this polish. It is a lovely color and I would definitely use it for nail art but not so sure about a full on manicure again.

Bondi New York : Botanical Beauty.

Good afternoon love bugs! Hope you all are doing well this weekend, I am spending my one day off this weekend relaxing and slowly shopping for things for Florida. I can't believe that it is less than 25 days away! I feel like I have so much to do yet!

Anyway today I bring you a polish from a company called Bondi NY. A while back I want to say maybe just before Christmas I was tweeted by them to send them my email so they could contact me about their new polish line that would be making its debut in 2013. I was super excited about this since it was the first time a company reached out to me to possibly review a nail polish!

So after a few months a waiting ( and to be honest I hadn't heard much communication so I thought maybe it was a dead end. But I was so wrong! ) I finally received an email with a coupon code so I could order one of their polishes. So when I went to their website:

I saw they have a vast array of colors from polishes with shimmer, bright almost neon colors, and your spring time crèmes.

After looking at all the beautiful colors I chose Botanical Beauty.  Botanical Beauty is a lovely lilac color that some how combines a light purple and light pink. On the nail it leans more pink but trust me its definitely has some purple in it. Its a crème finish polish which happens to be one of my favorite finishes. It sort of reminds me of a hydrangea or a lilac bush.

I love the style of the bottle, for some reason I like the square shape, I think its because maybe its easier to store when organizing my polishes. The cap to this polish is cool, it doesn't come off revealing a smaller round cap but it does have the feel of a silky finish that's matte although the cap itself isn't slippery. The matte silky top actually helps me grip it better to open the polish, you know how sometimes we can't grip the top of polish to get it off because our fingers just slide.

The photos above were taken with two coats and a top coat in natural sunlight. The texture of the polish is amazing, if your careful it could be a ONE COATER! But I like to even out my polish with an extra coat so I did two, but the coverage for one is there. The finish without a top coat is glossy but not super glossy like when you do add the top coat.

Overall I really like this polish and think its a great pick for spring and summer, and the name couldn't fit better!

Bondi NY runs about $12.50 a bottle according to their website and right now some of the polishes I saw are marked down a couple of dollars. I suggest if your budget allows for one higher end polish you might want to give these a try.

Julie G. Nail Polish in Bikini.

Today I bring you a swatch of polish that I have had in my stash drawer for well over a year. What I am most shocked by is that I haven't featured it here on the blog!

Today I bring you from Jesse's Girl Julie G Nail Polish in Bikini! This polish was one of the first polishes included in her original core line that if my information is correct launched September of 2011 around labor day. I remember because I stalked my Rite Aid until they got them in!

I purchased this polish because it reminded me of China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy, the first time ( and last time ) I ever got a pedicure that was the polish I chose. If my memory serves me correctly I think Bikini is slightly darker than Flip Flop Fantasy but is just as intense and in your face.

Bikini is a crème formula that requires about two-three coats for opacity. I would be careful in between coats as I noticed it can look clumpy if it doesn't settle evenly. A top coat does take care of evening out the layers but I could still see it on the sides where the top coat didn't make it.

If your looking for a bright color to get you in the mood for spring (since it is in 5 days) this might be the color for you! I purchased mine at Rite Aid for $3.99!

Countdown to spring!

Hey fellow polish lovers!

Today I bring you a Spring inspired splatter manicure. I feel like I always talk about the weather when I do a blog post, mostly its complaining about how horrible the weather is but today its about how spring is making its way in to New York!

Even with the crazy ass weather we have had where it snows for a day then is gone the next becaue it gets warm out I am super excited that spring is 10 days away! I've already got some spring/summer dresses out and ready to be worn when the snow melts and the weather starts to stay steady in the temperatures.

So for this manicure I started off with a base of China Glaze light as air. Wanting to add some bright colors to it grabbed some straws and some spring colors and went to work,.

The colors I used are Orly: Its not me. It's you. Pure Ice: Twinkle. Wet 'n' Wild: I Need A Refreshmint.

I'm still kind of new to the whole splatter manicure, I have only done one other which was back at Halloween time last year.

To add just a bit more of sparkle, I used this unlabled L.A, Girl Rockstar polish that Adri, from Morie's Nail Art sent me! It is a dupe for China Glaze Fairy Dust but its done with gold holo glitter.

China Glaze Light As Air.

Hello and happy Friday!!! Hope all is well!

Today I bring you a polish that has been on my wishlist for a while. A couple weeks ago I went to a beauty supply store with my BFF  Stephanie that is for professionals only. Lucky for me she s a licensed cosmetologist and can get me into the really good stores. This store was called Cosmo Prof. I think it is the same company that puts on the Cosmo Prof trade show that's for professionals, if I have my facts straight about it.

Anyway there is one little Cosmo Prof. store about 40 minutes from where we live and we decided to take a road trip to find it. Once we found it we were undoubtly excited to get in there and see what we could find. She blames every nail polish she purchases on me, I love being an enabler!

The store isn't huge but big enough that is has pretty much all the OPI's you can dream of and some China Glaze. I was hoping they would have more choices in brands of polish, especially Color Club but no. They had a few other brands I had never heard of as well but they weren't so appealing. So I stuck to picking out one or two OPI's. Usually OPI's are $8.99 when I purchase them at other beauty supplies that are open to the public like The Beauty Plus Salon, but here at Cosmo Prof they were $4.25 a piece! What a steal! So I immediately went looking for the Euro Centrale Collection which they had displayed on an end cap. They had all of the DS polishes too, but there weren't any prices on them so I didn't buy any. After grabbing a couple of OPI's  the employee's showed us the clearance section. Now there wasn't much to choose from sadly, most of the polishes were ones I already had or ones I knew I didn't want. Plus a lot of them were older and separated which means they had been sitting there some time. There was one polish though that caught my eye which was China Glaze Light As Air. Light as air is from the Up & Away collection, when I first started collecting polishes I made an ultimate list of what I wanted to buy off of one of the E retailers and this was on that list.

With the clearance price it was on sale for $1.99! I couldn't pass that up so that was the last one I grabbed. So that's what I have to show you, Introducing Light As Air.

Light As Air is a crème finish polish that I would say is a lavender grey color. Two coats brings it to perfect opacity, and for once on the first coat there wasn't much streaking at all! You'll see in a later post I used this as a base for some nail art!

I'm definitely glad I grabbed this polish, I can't wait to wear it when the warmer spring weather arrives. I think spring is trying to break through early, its now march so its only 19 days away officially. Every time we get snow its gone by the next day since the temps are finally above freezing!


I only have one complaint about Cosmo Prof. The employees as much as they were trying to be helpful, they were extremely rude and annoying. They literally followed me and Steph around like we were criminals waiting to see if we were going to steal anything. Every turn it was "can I help you" I explained to them that I am a nail blogger and I know what I was looking for but mainly browsing too. The clerk looked at me like I have three heads, when Steph asked the lady at the front counter what product she used to get her hair blue, I mean it was this nice vibrant blue that faded out towards the bottom, the lady replied " uh bleach." and Steph went " I know that but what did you use to get the blue color?" I understand people have the right to be aware when people come into their store and there just browsing, I work in retail I know, but at least there could of been a little more hospitality and not so much hovering like we were little kids.

Nicole By OPI Selena.

Good morning my dears! I hope you all are well and not suffering from a cold or the flu like myself last week!

I cannot imagine the last time I was that sick. I hope it all I get for the season because I hate being sick! I want to say a huge thank you to all of you for hanging in there while I was recuperating on the couch. Turns out being sick got me addicted to The Vampire Diaries, darn that Netflix.


Anyway on to today's post! Today I bring you Nicole By OPI Selena, from the new Selena Gomez Collection. I found the entire collection at my local Wal-Mart. They had a huge end cap display that was all nice and clean one day and then when I went back a few days later to actually buy one of the polishes the idiotic people that live in my town wrote all over it with the nail polishes and drew all over Selena's face. I hate it when people deface things, so what if you don't like the person on the display do you really need to use the product in the display to deface it? People may want to buy that product! My other thought was how they got up to the top of the display since its pretty tall.  Luckily I found one that didn't look used in the back of the display.

Selena is a polish that I don't have anything like in my collection. The closest thing I have to it would be Pure Ice Twinkle, and it is way more orange toned and contains shimmer, Selena does not.

Selena is a soft peachy crème, a color I love to wear in the spring time.

Application was pretty awesome with this polish. Two even coats and you can reach opacity, with three thin coats you can achieve it as well, the choice is yours :)

This is such a fun color to wear, its very much work appropriate, so if you work in a stuffy office you should be able to get away with it.

As you can see from my photos it looks a bit more pinker, but its really not. I tried to correct it in the photos but it wouldn't budge. I do have to say the shape of the NOPI bottle is an odd one, I don't hate it but it is so hard to photograph my hands on it. If your looking to purchase any of the Selena Gomez Collection than you can find it at Wal-Mart, and I've also seen it at CVS, but my CVS only had a partial display so if your looking for the whole shebang than I would say Wal-Mart is your best bet. They retail for: Wal-Mart $7 and at CVS $7.99. These prices are local to me and I paid the $7 at my Wal-Mart. Remember they maybe different where you live.

L'oreal Paris: Royalty Reinvented.

Good morning!

Hope you all are having a fantastic start to the weekend!

Today I have to show you a new L'Oreal Nail Polish! L'Oreal recently launched a line called " Le Nouveau  Riche   TRENDsetter collection. It consist of six to eight new shades of nail polishes. The display at my local CVS only had the six. That kind of disappointed me because I really wanted to see the three metallic shades included in the set. Guess I'll be hopping over to Walgreens soon to see if they have it. Usually I go to Rite Aid for the newest collections but my local one is slacking lately. :(

So this collection like I said above has three metallic shades and six pastel crème shades. If you want to read more on the collection you can head on over to Nouveau Cheap's blog for all the deets.

Out of the six crème shades available to me I picked out the purple crème called Royalty Reinvented. I wanted to grab more but at $6.49 a pop I had to say no, I did however have $1.50 in extra bucks so it knocked it down to $5.51(including tax) in the end.

The reason I bought yet another purple nail polish is because I don't have many pastel purples, the only one this is even remotely close to was my very first pastel purple from OPI when they released their Shrek Collection. Funky Dunky is the name and its actually darker than RR and matches my winter jacket perfectly.

I'm always cautious when wearing a crème polish due to brush drag, spottiness, the usual. This polish is most certainly among the average crème colors, the first coat was sheer but by the next coat the opacity quota was met making Nicole a very happy girl.

Immediately wanted to layer something over this and with it being the start of the new year I grabbed for my Tasmanian Devil Confetti Polish and added one layer over top. Who doesn't like colorful sparkly nails?

This combination reminded me of a robins egg. Now I know usually robin's eggs are blue with black splotches, but we can say this is its oddball cousin who is the wild child of the family.

The one thing that I did notice today while I was out killing time in Wal-Mart while my mom was doing laundry was that the pastel purple from the NOPI Selena Gomez collection look awfully similar to Royalty Reinvented, and one of the glitter polish which is multi-colored is an exact dupe of the Confetti Polish in these photos! And to mention price point, usually at Wal-Mart L'Oreal polishes are $4.97 versus the $7 dollar price for NOPI.  I was kind of excited to buy some of the Selena polishes and did buy one of them today and I'll feature here soon.  Is it weird that I'm glad there were dupes in that collection from what I have so I didn't have to buy? ( As I type this I hear my wallet's cries of joy).

Milani 3D Holographic Nail Polish in Hi-Res.

 In the beginning of the year I when I really started by polish regularly and had the chance to go to stores that I normally don't have access to and I picked up my first holographic polishes. Two were from Color Club, and the rest were Milani! So today's holographic goodness is from Milani, if you didn't get that from the title.

Hi-Res is the name and I like how these polishes have that tech savvy name to them. I featured the Milani Pink Holographic polish on here sometime in the very beginning of the year and for St. Patricks day I showed you the Green Milani Holographic polish.

I like to describe these polishes as jelly-ish holographic. You seriously need about four to almost five coats to achieve opacity. I tried pairing a similar color underneath these and it seems to take away the holo effect which is weird,.

Whether having to apply four coats to me its worth it. Once again these are not linear holographic polishes like the new Color Club Halo Hues Collection, which I have still yet to obtain or the Layla Holos, I can't justify a $15 dollar polish no matter how cool it looks, these are scattered holographic polishes that sometimes have a slight linear look to them.

Application like I said is tricky, the fact that they are almost jelly like in consistency it really neat and definitely adds to the 3D effect but I would rather just have to apply two coats of thicker creme-ier polish and get the same effect.

The scattered holo effect is sadly lost in a couple of these polishes, which I will be posting soon. I will say the Silver one is the worst, four coats and I could still see my nail line.

I would definitely describe the color of this as a delicate lavender/lilac. It really is a spring time color, but for me its one of those work appropriate colors. No one noticed the pretty sparkle, so I guess if corporate were ever to come and visit and shake my hand its good to know this polish won't get me fired or something. To be honest my job doesn't have a problem with the front end wearing nail polish, its only if you work in the food prep area's like the deli that you can't.

These polishes are not cheap, they are most certainly at the high end of the drugstore spectrum, as most Milani Cosmetics are. Its because they are good, I have read a lot of reviews on Milani products and Milani seems to have hits with lots of things. I purchased this polish at CVS for $5.99 each.
